Nursing prerequisites

Preliminary requirements

  • RN licensure or eligibility for licensure
  • Junior year standing (60 semester credits/90 quarter credits), completion of Associate of Arts transfer degree or WSU University Core Requirements (UCORE, see below)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in college and in nursing prerequisites
  • Minimum grade of C in each nursing prerequisite course
  • Transfer courses must be finished according to the following timeline: 

If you'll be finishing your transfer courses in:

  • Fall Quarter (December): Apply by August 20 to start the program in Spring Semester (January)​
  • Winter Quarter (March): Apply by January 15 to start the program in Summer Semester (May)​
  • Spring Quarter (May/June): Apply by January 15 to start the program in Fall Semester (August)

College of Nursing Prerequisite Courses

  • Anatomy & Physiology — 8 credit hours
  • Chemistry course with lab — 4 credit hours
  • Human Nutrition — 3 credit hours
  • Introduction to Sociology/Social Problems — 3 credit hours
  • Introduction to Psychology — 3 credit hours
  • Microbiology — 4 credit hours
  • Statistics — 4 credit hours

WSU Common Requirements (UCORE)

A prior bachelor’s degree or approved transferable associate’s degree (DTA) automatically fulfill the UCORE, except for the Integrative Capstone [CAPS] to be completed at the College of Nursing (pending approval). Nursing prerequisites still have to be met on a course-for-course basis. Contact an advisor with any questions.
